Competitor promotion tracking, with promo codes validated in the cart

Every competitor sale, markdown and promo code, including the ones that only arrive by newsletter or SMS, validated in the cart so you know what they really take off and which brands they exclude. Brands breaking their own MAP, caught the same day.

Codes from the inbox, not just the banner Exclusions tested in the cart Nothing is ever bought
In plain terms

What competitor promotion tracking should include

Competitor promotion tracking records every sale, markdown, coupon and promo code a competitor runs, with its depth, scope and dates, so your own promotional calendar is planned against what they actually did. Promotion monitoring tools built on page crawls see the banner and the strikethrough price. They miss the code that arrived by email, and they never test whether an exclusion holds in the cart.

Lightfeed captures the codes where they are sent, validates them against your catalog without buying anything, and records the effective price, so brand exclusions and MAP are checked on facts rather than fine print.

The problem

The real discount is not on the product page

A price tracker sees the banner. The price your customer actually pays is set by a code in their inbox and by exclusions that may or may not be enforced at the till.

Newsletter and SMS codes hide the price from crawlers

A 20% code sent to subscribers never appears on the site. Competitors use it precisely so your price match and your crawler cannot see it. By the time it reaches a coupon aggregator the sale is over.

Exclusions are written in the fine print and enforced at the till, or not

"Excludes selected brands" in the fine print is a promise to those brands. When the code still works on them in the cart, the competitor is below MAP and you are the one holding the line.

Promo calendars are rebuilt by hand after the fact

Someone screenshots competitor emails into a shared folder and types the dates into a sheet. Depth, scope and whether the code actually worked are guesses.

How it works

From competitor list to a validated promo calendar

1

Send your catalog and competitor set

Your products with brand, SKU and price, the competitors to read, and the brands whose MAP you are held to. Add the brands' own sites to catch them undercutting you.

2

We read prices, markdowns and on-site promotions

Shelf price, sale price, member price, promotion text and its end date, stock, on each competitor, matched to your catalog like for like.

3

We capture the codes

Lightfeed subscribes to each competitor's newsletter and SMS list with its own addresses and numbers and extracts every code, its stated scope and its dates as the messages arrive.

4

We validate in the cart

Each code is applied to a cart of your tracked products. We record what it really took off, which items it refused, and flag any brand that landed below MAP. Nothing is bought.

What a validated code looks like

One record per code, with the cart as evidence

FieldWhat we record
Code and sourceThe code, the channel it came from (site banner, newsletter, SMS, cart prompt), when it arrived and the message it came in.
Stated scopeDiscount, minimum basket, start and end dates, and the exclusions as written in the fine print.
Tested scopeWhich of your tracked products the code applied to in the cart and which it refused, with the cart totals.
Effective priceAdvertised price, discount taken, effective price per item, and the gap to MAP for the brands you named.
StatusLive, expired, revoked early, or re-validated before its end date.

FAQ

Questions online merchandising teams ask

How do you get codes that are only sent by newsletter or SMS?
Lightfeed subscribes to each competitor's newsletter and SMS list with its own addresses and numbers, reads the messages as they arrive, and extracts the code, its stated scope and its dates. Nothing of yours is used and no personal data is collected.
Does validating a code place an order?
No. The code is applied to a cart of your tracked products and the cart totals are read; the flow stops before checkout. No account is created on your behalf and nothing is bought.
Is a checkout-only discount a MAP violation?
It depends on how the brand's policy is written. Most MAP policies govern the advertised price, and a store-wide code applied in the cart is a grey area that some policies cover and some do not. Lightfeed records the advertised price, the code and the effective price with the cart as evidence, so your buyer can take the facts to the brand.
Can you catch a brand breaking its own MAP?
Yes. Add the brand's own site to the competitor set and its markdowns, codes and member prices are read like any retailer's. A brand selling below the MAP it asks you to hold shows up in the compliance view the same day.
How often are promotions read?
Daily by default, hourly during Black Friday, Boxing Day and the other sale weeks you name. Codes are validated when they arrive and again before their stated end date.
Which plan includes promo-code validation?
Prices, markdowns, on-site promotions and stock are in the $699 Growth plan. Newsletter and SMS capture and cart validation are built per competitor set on Enterprise.
